April's Coming Soon
Plans for Poetry Month
It’s almost April, and that means it’s almost Poetry Month. This year is busier than usual and that makes it all the more important to proactively make a little space for writing.
I have been working to clear the decks ahead of Poetry Month. My desk was woefully crammed with too many projects: taxes + homeschooling + co-op plans each with their piles and bookstacks. There are still too many books, but I am making progress. I have also started a new round of revision—pulling promising drafts (mostly about the Handless Maiden) out of the journal and typing them up. I’m already planning a revision retreat in June!
Through the generous patronage of paid subscribers, I’ve joined Ellen Rowland’s April Writing Series: daily poems, prompts, and craft notes. I am looking forward to learning + writing together. I am also looking forward to the Junk Journaling daily practice at Creativebug.
If you are looking for writing prompts, I’ve created a collection of One Word Writing Prompts based on the work of William Stafford, Hilary Mantel, and Joan Didion. And I created a brand new collection based on the story of Vasilisa the Wise for this month’s Poetry Post. I’d love to send you a copy in the mail!
I also plan to post pictures of my Personal Universe Deck throughout the month. I learned about the deck from the work of Tammi Salas. I glued images from our daily art calendar onto index cards and than added words. You can use the image or the words or even the collection of words to spark your new creative work.
I’d love to hear about your plans for Poetry Month and the blossoming of the Pink Moon.

I got the Vasilisa prompts. Oh swoon!
Sadly I’m not sure I’ve got the bandwidth to write many poems in April. I might be sitting out on this one.
