The Anchoress anchors my favorite poet! Hurray!

Oh I didn't even hear that echo when I wrote it!

I had been stuck in this round of revisions and sort of avoiding the manuscript. Then out of the blue I had the idea to begin each section with a Julian poem. Later that day I realized it was May 8, her feast day. ✨

That’s cool how things work out.

I've slowed down on my submissions lately, but once my chap mss is finished I'll be gearing up again.

The rejections haven't really bothered me all that much, although there was a long run of a few years without a single acceptance, which definitely began to pall.

I think my favorite rejection was after I submitted to my alma mater's (non-student) lit mag, and my former poetry prof sent it in less than 12 hours! I guffawed. :-)

So how are you going to know when the chap is ready to send out? I had to set an arbitrary deadline for this latest round of edits or I would tinker till kingdom come.

I've got one or two more readers to hear from about yes/no for individual pieces, but I think I'm pretty close to a final selection. I'm pretty close to not tinkering right now, so then it'll be on to the sequencing decisions. ;-)

Thanks for the nod! I'm pretty systematic with sending out work, as I've shared extensively haha. This year I think I'm going to actually start sending out less work--maybe only 2 or 3 submissions a month--since homeschooling and work have gotten so busy.

I completely ignore rejections--once I send out a poem and log it on my spreadsheet, I don't think about it again. When I get a rejection, I delete it immediately and go on my merry way!

What I actually found as I was cleaning out my desk was my folder of notes from the magical weekend at your house 💙

Sending out is not something I've done much of. Now and then in the past couple of years I've taken the plunge and submitted a few things here or there. So far no acceptance. I don't have time or attention for systematic submissions. I really don't think this is the season of life for that. But every once in a while I get a nudge, have a bit of hope and then am a bit sad, but resigned, when nothing is accepted. Some day I will have an empty nest. Or at least my homeschooling dance card won't be so full. But this is the season of teenagers and special needs and just finding time to write at all is a challenge much of the time.

One more! Certain Age is on my list too (https://www.certainagemag.com/guidelines). Seems the kind of place that could appreciate the full dance card.

Ah, the homeschooling dance card! What an image!

I still have not mastered the systematic submission process. For so long I didn't simultaneously submit. That felt like too much to keep track of. I have a notebook of poems that need to be typed up, and another notebook to read through. And then maybe from those beginnings, I can get a packet ready to send out. Feels like getting ready for winter. The wood that needs to be split and stacked before the rain comes.

Maybe tuck The Solitary Plover (https://lorineniedecker.org/solitary-plover/) and tiny wren (https://www.tinywrenlit.com/submit) in your pocket for the next time you feel the nudge? The editors have been kind to me.
