If you listened to the San Diego Padres on the radio in the 80s, you know Jerry Coleman’s exclamation at any kind of noteworthy play.
“You can hang a star on that, baby!”
And really there’s no better productivity hack than star stickers!
I use a 3 month on a page calendar to track day when I write. Every day that I write, I get a sticker. At the top there’s a place to note outside obligations that might keep my from the desk, as well as a few revision and submission goals.
This is not Don’t Break the Chain. The thing about chains is that they always break. Instead, every day that I write is a day to celebrate.
(That day at the beginning of August with all the stars? That’s the week I got 2 poetry chapbooks accepted!)
What does your writing life look like in the coming year?
I'm looking to write with a more secretive aire. One way this app (and many others) have affected my art making have been to warp my understanding of process vs production. I'd really love to birth a chapbook like yours, Kortney! If I'm to do that, I know I need to keep more of my writing a secret. I love this question- thank you for posing it!
